Monday 9 February 20091. How many forms of digital media surrounds us?
Some forms of digital media that surround us are:
- The Internet
- Digital Television
- Cellphones
- compact disc
- e-book
2. What number system is digital media based on? What two digits are used to code all digital data?
Digital data is based on Binary numeral system and the 2 digits are 0 and 1.
3. What is a bit? What is a byte?
The terms bit and byte are common in computer networking. Both terms refer to digital data transmitted over a network connection. A byte is the memory capacity of a typical personal computer that runs from millions to billions of byte.
4. What is "sampling rate"? Find an image from that explans how sampling works.
Sampling rate determines the sound frequency range which can be represented in the digital waveform.
5. How does colour depth or bit depth effect the appearance of an image? Find some images to illustrate the effect.
Higher colour depth or bit depth gives a broader range of distict colours.
6. Colour depth effects both still and video digital media. Sampling rate only effects video but not still media. Can you explain.
The difference between colour depth and sampling rate is that sampling rate doesn't have the effect to video digital media. The reason for this is that colour depth has more of a variety.
